Syria Says Airstrike by USA will fuel Al-Qaeda Activities.
With the congress set to pass a verdict on whether US president Barack Obama should proceed to launch air-strike on Syria where the world super power says it has evidence Assad’s forces used chemical weapons on defenseless protesters near Damascus, tension is up and building among many Syrians. France which supports the move is reportedly waiting the move in the US congress to endorse a strike. However, US secretary of State, John Kerry while responding to several media interviews in US said, Obama may not be limited to taking such an action should the Congress turn turn his proposal.
Meanwhile, Syrian deputy Foreign Minister has come out strongly to oppose a possible military attack by the allies saying it will only create an friendly environment to Al-Qaeda. Syrian government has continued to deny the 21 August attack near Damascus where an estimated 1300 peoples lost their lives in what has been alleged to be a chemical attack.
While meeting in Cairo, Egypt to deliberate on Syria’s situation, the United Arab League has urged the international community to take deterrent measures against Syria should it be found guilty of contravening the UN Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993 which bars usage of mass destruction weapons by any country.
The US says it had discovered traces of Sarin gas in air and blood samples collected and analyzed by its intelligent. The UN investigators who were on the site near Damascus carrying out investigations are reported to have arrived back at the Netherlands to present their findings to UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon before any further steps can be advised on Syria.
