US Sure Syria Used Chemical Weapons
The US government has sought to stem its stance on Syria saying Assad’s government had used chemical weapons against protestors in Damascus. Some UN chemical weapons inspectors who were sent to the site near Damascus where chemical weapons were used got fired at but are set to return to the site for further investigations.
While echoing similar sentiments made by US secretary of state, US Vice President, Joe Biden has said there is no doubt Syria used chemical weapons and that it must be held accountable. Department of defense had earlier raised the alarm on the same possibility and presented President Barrack Obama with a number of options. A military strike intervention is seen as most eminent with US allies like UK and France seen to be in full support of the intended move by US.
The US government says, the military strikes will only target Syria’s military bases but with no intention of regime change. Syria has come out strongly to deny the claims that it used chemical weapons against defenseless women, children and unarmed innocent civilians.
France and UK which are major US allies have supported against use of chemical weapons the move citing punishable offenses in Syria. However, China and Russia have opposed the intended move by the Allies saying it will have serious consequences in the region if Syria is stricken for using chemical weapons.
