Ibrahim Keita Clinches Mali Presidency
Ibrahim Keita clinches Mali presidency in round two of the presidential elections after Sunday’s peaceful elections held amid heavy downpour witnessed half day during the polling day.Mr.Keita’s bitter rival in the race and a former finance minister,Soumaila Cisse has congratulated the former Prime Minister on his election victory and wished him good luck as he prepares to take the office and oath of Presidency.Though no official results have been released,reliable reports put the Ex-Premier in a comfortable lead.
Election observers from the European Union(EU) and African Union(AU) have so far given the elections a clean bill of health.The two major observer groups have termed the elections as free and fair.The round one fraud allegations of close to 400,000 spoilt ballots made by Mr. Cisse were dispelled as untrue.The elections have created a new face for the West African Nation following a coup will toppled the government in 2012. Mr.Keita and Cisse are among the 27 candidates who contested for the top office. In round two,Mr.Ibrahim Keita enjoyed the support of the other candidates who lost in round one. In the July,28 elections,Mr.Keita had garnered 39% of the vote cast against Cisse’s 20% and this meant a re-run to meet the minimum thresh-hold.
